NHL Rumor Mill – July 2, 2024
A list of the remaining notable UFAs, the latest on Jacob Trouba, plus updates on the Leafs, Senators and Jets in today’s NHL Rumor Mill.
REMAINING NOTABLE UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
DAILY FACEOFF: Vladimir Tarasenko, James van Riemsdyk, Ryan Suter and Max Pacioretty are the notable players on Frank Seravalli’s list of the top remaining unrestricted free agents. Others include Nate Schmidt, Tyson Barrie, Tyler Johnson, Mike Hoffman and Tony DeAngelo.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Most of these players are past their prime. Some of them might land with new clubs on inexpensive one-year contracts.
THE LATEST ON JACOB TROUBA
THE ATHLETIC: Peter Baugh reports the New York Rangers’ biggest move yesterday was the one they didn’t make: trading Jacob Trouba and his $8 million cap hit.

New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba (NHL Images).
The Rangers explored trading the 30-year-old defenseman, whose no-movement clause shifted to a 15-team no-trade list on Monday. They requested his list early to trade and expedite the situation.
Arthur Staple reports Trouba refused to submit his list until it was due on early Monday, which may have scuttled some of general manager Chris Drury’s plans for the day. A rumored deal with the Detroit Red Wings might not be on the front burner following the Wings’ re-signing of Patrick Kane and other free-agent additions yesterday.
Staple also believes there’s a chance Trouba, knowing the Rangers are trying to send him to Detroit, could include the Wings on his no-trade list.
NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports Trouba’s wife’s hospital residency is among the factors keeping him with the Rangers.
Dr. Kelly Tyson-Trouba’s three-year residency at a New York hospital was to be completed this year when her husband’s no-movement clause expired. However, her residency was deferred by a year so the program she is required to complete will instead end on July 1, 2025.
Brooks reports sources claim the discussions between the Trouba camp and Rangers management have been professional without animosity. He also said the rumor that Trouba rejected a trade to Detroit was untrue.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: As this story unfolds, it seems increasingly unlikely that Trouba will be traded this summer. The Ranger’s inability to clear his $8 million from their payroll will complicate efforts to improve their roster depth and to re-sign RFA defensemen Braden Schneider and Ryan Lindgren.
UPDATE ON THE MAPLE LEAFS
TORONTO SUN: Terry Koshan reports Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving wants to make it work with Nick Robertson. He wouldn’t confirm if the 22-year-old winger made a trade request but admitted there was some frustration from Robertson last season.
Treliving had no update on whether contract extension talks have started with Mitch Marner. The 27-year-old winger is a year away from UFA eligibility. He said he wouldn’t address it, adding that Marner is training and preparing for the season.
TORONTO STAR: Kevin McGran reported Treliving also had no update on a contract extension for captain John Tavares. “I’m not going to get into any contract discussions that we may or may not be having,” said Treliving. “We do our business behind closed doors.”
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Here’s how I see the Leafs’ summer unfolding. Robertson will be traded only if the Leafs can get a comparable player in return. Marner won’t be traded. He and Tavares won’t get contract extensions this summer. Both players and management will adopt a wait-and-see approach to the 2024-25 season.
NO TRUTH TO SHANE PINTO TRADE REQUEST
OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports Senators GM Steve Staios denied Shane Pinto had requested a trade.
League sources claim contract talks between Staios and the Pinto camp are at an impasse. However, Staios said the 23-year-old center didn’t ask to be traded. He added that negotiations take time and they’re still pressing on.
Garrioch also mentioned hearing Pinto’s agent is calling around seeking an offer sheet. The Senators only have $4.4 million in cap space but would match an offer for the young center. It would also be a long shot as the compensation for an offer between $4.57 million and $6.7 million is a first and third-round draft pick.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Pinto will probably end up with a two-year deal worth around $3 million annually. He lacks arbitration rights because he didn’t accrue sufficient years to qualify.
THE LATEST ON JETS PROSPECT RUTGER MCGROARTY
THE ATHLETIC: Murat Ates reports Winnipeg Jets prospect Rutger McGroarty remains in play in the trade market.
The Jets were close to moving the 20-year-old forward to the Minnesota Wild at the recent NHL Draft. They also received interest from the Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: McGroarty won’t attend the Jets development camp this week. Ates indicates they are still trying to move him.
Re; Edmonton Oilers
It sounds like Evander kane is on the trade block here in Edmonton, 2 years left at $5.1M top six winger can score and bring’s sandpapper to the line up….
Oilers need to make a move as they need to free up Cash as they are $2.45M Over in Cap Space
and they also need $2.M to re-sign both there RFA’s
Broberg and Holloway
Sorry, but if you want to move the whole cap you need to add a sweetener
McGroarty won’t be traded this summer. The window ended with the draft. The Jets will see if they could smooth things over with him next spring. If not they’ll trade him then
Not so sure. Sounds like he does want to go pro, he’s just not willing to compete for a spot with the Jets. If he goes back to college, which again he seemingly doesn’t want to do now, he’s just going to be even more cranky. I don’t see a path where he ends up a Jet.
Teams can offer up picks for the next years draft or roster players, so I don’t think its dead yet.
Not trading Trouba was NYs best move. He has 2 years left and it gives 22 year old Schneider time to further develop.
Trouba was not good in this years playoffs, he was awful. But he also was chosen to return to the 2nd pairing when the Miller / Schneider pairing turned awful. Trouba, with a broken ankle!
No matter how it shakes out, if Laviolette decides to go back to Schneider/ Miller to start the season, it all works out. Trouba can be a calming presence for Zac Jones, or they have a security blanket for Schneider.
Not ideal to have a 3rd pairing guy making 8 million. But it all balances out with Schneider making 2.5-3.5? and Jones making nothing.
I said when NY was ousted here and other blogs. “ Don’t expect major changes, signings or a shakeup. This team was close. If this team was healthy, they may have got over that hump.
Next year, a healthy Chytil, Lindgren , Fox and Trouba. Along with more experience for guys like Miller , Schneider, Kakko, Laffrienere, Cullye etc. and this team is still on top of the east and a threat.
Most NY fans expected the impossible or just the flat out signing of every shiny fa out there. Whether they made sense or not, whether they could afford them or not. Thank god Drury doesn’t take advice from this rabid fan base!
Captain Obvious, the Jacob Trouba trade window just opened yesterday. NMC became a 15 team no trade list. I expect the Rangers will attempt to move Trouba over the next several weeks.
But at this point for what? What out there makes them better with 6-8 million in cap space?
Pretty much every single FA of any value is off the boards. NY does not have an NHL capable right side guy to fill his shoes or even the 3rd pairing.
If NY had the opportunity to fill that spot with a cheaper guy that can play 22 minutes a night, maybe. That ship has sailed. My guess is Trouba goes nowhere until next years deadline at the earliest.
I’m pretty sure he plays out his contract in NY. Unless they can find a comparable guy. But why make that trade from the other teams perspective?
I have no idea what the parameters of a trade would look like – just know that the window is now open. Rangers could swing a deal for a $4M dman and retain 50% of the Trouba contract.
It’s an internal discussion – do we keep Jacob or move on? One week ago, Trouba held all the cards with his NMC. Now there is a 15 team no-trade list, so 16 possible destinations other than the Rangers.
So essentially pay another d-man 8 million by holding 4 on Trouba? How does that help?
No thanks. Unless of course that d-man is younger, and capable of 22+ minutes a night.
But why on earth would the other team swing that deal?
They wouldn’t. I wouldn’t hold by breath on Trouba going anywhere.
Realistically, It really doesn’t make sense from either perspective.
Pinto doesn’t have much leverage so he will eventually sign – and as I postulated a few days ago, likely a 2-year bridge.
If he and his agent are smart they’ll do just that. because he could get the opportunity to become the 2nd line C.
Norris is apparently back in Ottawa this week for further tests on his shoulder which, to all reports, is looking good. With him it’s finger-crossing time, but if his shoulder is good to go, there could be come line-fidgeting that would benefit Pinto.
Stutzle had a bit of a downer year at C and could go back to the position he played well at in his rookie season – LW. That could set up their lines like this:
Tkachuk – Norris – Giroux
Stutzle – Pinto – Batherson
Peron – Greig – Amadio
*Joseph – Gregor – MacEwen
Sanderson – Zub
Chabot – Jensen
Kleven – Bernard-Dicker
7th D – Hamonic
Ullmark – Forsberg
Norris never looked comfortable last year and ended up injuring it. Hopefully with the lengthy time off he has healed up nicely and will be back to one timing the puck from top of the circles again.
I only asterisked Joseph because it appears the intent was, leading up to the draft and then UFA day, to trade him and his $2,950,000 cap hit.
That could still be an option as teams now begin to assess their situation following trades/free agent signings (or lack thereof).
He has two seasons left, and while not a bad 3rd/4th line LW (360 gp 55g 80a 135 pts and a cumulative +12 with Tampa and Ottawa) with 82-game averages of 13g 18a 31 pts, that is not what you want to be spending close to $3 mil off your cap for. They might have to eventually hold back some of that cap hit.
George you got your wish Joseph to the Blues. He’s going to get the toi that Blais got last year. Can he kill penalties and does he play physical?
Snold 49 – I always viewed him as one of the harder-working guys on the Sens – and yes, he was on the pk but the fact it was one of the worst in the league wasn’t in any way on him.
He will give you effort every shift and probably (depending upon where he slots in in St. Louis) about 35-38 pts a season.
Unfortunately, with the way Ottawa’s cap went close to the limit under Dorion, it just became a case of too much ($2,950,000 per) for a F on the 3rd/4th line. They absolutely needed that cash to sign Pinto.
He will not hurt you in any way, though. I wish him the best of luck (except when they play Ottawa 😉 )
With Joseph gone for “future considerations” the pure salary dump now has Staios with $7,350,000 in cap to spend with 5 to sign to reach 23 – including Pinto. I see that getting done on a 2-year bridge deal at around $4,350,000 per, giving him $3 mil to use on 4 – one f which will be Kleven and his ELC of just under $1 mil.
Pinto just signed that 2-year deal I mention elsewhere for $3,750,000 per – less than what I posted by about a million!
Now Staios can flesh out his roster, perhaps with another off the UFA heap.
George O thanks man you are the greatest appreciate the info.
George O; would like to get your scouting report on Parker Kelly & Eric Branstrom coming to the Avalanche. What’s the scoop on these 2 guys? Kelly, i am hearing is a hard working bottom 6 guy that will do whatever for the team. Branstrom, don’t know much about but he was highly touted a little bit ago. Remember the draft talk about him and what Ottawa was getting a good young defenseman but i don’t get to see him play that often?
tommy boy, the only thing stopping Ottawa from keeping Brannstrom was the $2 mil cap hit. They suggested he could stick around with a pay cut, but the kid wanted no part of that (although he has signed for decidedly less in Colorado, I see).
He’s a nice puck mover, fast, and in 266gp with Ottawa he contributed 7g 62a 69 pts and for the past two seasons has been a cumulative +10 on an otherwise leaky defense.
Just don’t expect any physicality back of his own blue line – not at 5′ 10″ 185 lbs. He could be very useful on the pp. I suppose the biggest reason he was never really embraced by the fan base was that he was the return from San Jose when Ottawa dealt Mark Stone.
Kelly is a hard-working 4th liner with a bit of an edge to his game and has decent size at 6′ 0″ 190 lbs. And he’s durable. In 80gp he had 8g 10a 18 pts. I thought he’d be a keeper … but it seems Staios is starting the move to have his choices in the line-up … and from what I’ve seen at the draft and in UFA signings, he’s going for SIZE. We’ll soon see how that works out.
George
Love that 3rd paring of Big Kleven – Bernard-Docker
,
I hope they get this bridge deal done with young Pinto sooner than later, so he can relax over the summer
Dont mind Joseph but not on the 4th line for $2.95M❗️ thats way to much,
STOP the Press…..Sens Trade⁉️ 52 Minutes ago…
The St. Louis Blues acquired winger Mathieu Joseph and a 2025 third-round pick from the Ottawa Senators and picked up centre Radek Faksa from the Dallas Stars in a pair of trades on Tuesday.
➡️ St. Louis is sending future considerations to Ottawa and Dallas in both deals.
I was going to Add… I really hope They give a couple of the kids a go on the 3rd & 4th lines maybe 1 on each line… this year.❓Now we have added some very good player’s to the bottom 6
MacEwen could be there 13th forward…..❓
Sen’s now have $7.35M in Cap Space with Pinto to Sign……………………👌
Trouba… wonder if the isles devils or Philly even would work for him. Devils just upgraded their d. But those are still fairly close to where he’s at.
Islanders have Dobson, Pulock and Mayfield on the right side. Scratch them off the list.
Philly has Samhein , Ristolainen and Drysdale. Scratch them.
Devils have Pesce, Hamiltonand Nemec on the right side. Scratch them off the list.
Plus, I doubt Drury has desire to move Trouba and his bionic elbow to a division rival.
Ristolainen gonna play first half of the season?
Trouba for Ristolainen is the only close fit but unlikely…
Is Hamilton 100%?
Ristolainen a career -185 signed for 3 more years at 5.1 for Trouba ?
No thanks, Ristolainen further proving my point that “big” doesn’t = better.
I’m not a big +/- fan. But a career-185 and NEVER being a + player any given year screams not good.
Just stick with Trouba.
@capt
If was a single year yeah…just hard to find a fit for Trouba anywhere near NYC
Rasmus first full season with Torts he was acceptable
The best place for Trouba around NYC is probably right where he’s at. Trading for a guy that isn’t at least as capable as Trouba doesn’t really make a lot of sense.
Change for the sake of change looks like desperation. No need for anything desperate.
its more about the cash than the change. if trouba made 4million even as the 3rd pair and pk guy thats all good. we need some millions of cap space.
i am also in the minority who wanted to move kreider this summer. that was change for change sake
In reality, what do they do with the millions in cap space?
If you look at next year’s pending UFA’s / rentals, most in the top 30 NY could use won’t be going anywhere.
You’re definitely on an island with trading Kreider. They certainly don’t have a legitimate replacement for him.
If Laffrienere was still playing LW, I’d almost agree. That line seems to be doing fine. So why switch him back?
Again, I didn’t see NY making drastic changes this offseason. And I still think they go with what they have. Maybe adding in Othmann or Berard.
Outside of that, why? A healthy roster is still the roster that just won a presidents trophy. No need for desperation moves.
Since they need to replace Trouba if they move him and there are basically no RD UFA left that are any good/inexperienced, I just dont see it happening unless they can get a dependable No 3 RD and an at least good RW back. Who has that and is willing to take Trouba or give that up without to high a cost. Trouba isnt going anywhere unless Benning/Snow becomes a new GM somewhere
Trouba $3.6M retained for Holl $1.4M retained. NYR saves $3M and has a true bottom pairing guy for $2M
3.6 million retained + 1.4 basically means 5 million for a 3rd pairing guy. Not 2.
Tarasenko On a one year would be a nice add for the Bruins …
Yes it would, if the price was right.
Leafs need a Left Wing. Evander Kane plus edm 1st rounder in 2025 for Nic Robertson.
kane + 1st for Nic Robertson?
Hope this was a joke.
Robertson isn’t worth a 4th rd pick?
Oilers need cap space. 1st rounder is the sweetener to take the full cap hit off edm hands.
Jeff & MP,
No thanks, would not even do a 1 for 1 with ether Pick or player mentioned there😲😂
Sounds like Drury thinks his captain is more of an anchor than an elite leader. He’s not wrong.
Hmmmm? He’s not wrong in a Pens fan head? A pens fan anchored with immovable / aging/ fading Karlsson, Letang?
I’d take 2 Troubas over one of either !
You should be concentrating on the draft next year instead of the Rangers
Maybe Trouba can give Crosby one last face plant before parting?
Captain Obvious….what is your deal with the Penguins bro? You constantly take a shot at the Penguins…I know New Yorkers suck but you take it to a new level. Slick was right you are so jealous of Crosby and crew.
Rangers aren’t even our main rival it is Washington and Philadelphia.
Concentrate on the soap opera that is the Rangers….thanks for taking Reilly Smith…and what the deal with Trouba why do they all of a sudden want to get rid of him ???
You would take Trouba over Letang or Karlsson but then again you are an idiot….with love don’t want to piss off your boy George O..
lets see the Penguins 5 Stanley Cups six finals appearances since 1992..
Rangers 1940 oh yeah they had to bring in Messier to win them one in 1994..good for you.
Hear the Rangers want Cam Atkinson really bad truth to that?
As far as the Penguins go…..kind of an ok off season..
we did get younger and more balanced–
Lizzote 26 22 goals 2 years ago with Kings
Beauviller 27 a Penguins killer good bottom six guy
Grzelcyk 30 steady defenseman for Boston for a long time will help for sure
Hayes 32 you should be familiar with him 57 % on face offs, big body will get us 15 to 20 goals good third line center could even move him to Malkin’s wing if needed.
The summer is just starting i think Dubas has a move or two coming?
Actually it wasn’t slick, it was another Pens fan boi that said that dumb crap.
Pens 5 Stanley cups and 2 bankruptcies, screaming toward number 3! Because we all know that fair weather fan base disappears at the first sight of mediocrity / failure.
Rangers win or lose, fans still show up. Still support the team. Still always top 2 most valuable teams in the NHL. Can you say the same? No you can’t.
It is more of the fan base I disdain rather than the organization. Watching them fail / flounder and go bankrupt again would be awesome! Watching them move out and leave Pittsburgh would truly be a dream come true!!!!
Notice how I and other fan bases can disagree without the drunken rants / name calling and childish bs? Hmmmmmmm I wonder why ?
Boston fans, Ottawa fans, Ranger fans, Colorado fans, Tampa fans hell even islander fans can all have adult / sober / conversation without slinging insults and nesting even nastier comments that fly under the radar in previous days posts.
It’s cowardly garbage like that that makes me rejoice in Dubas / Pittsburghs failures. You’re happy with Pittsburghs moves ? You were last year too. How did that work out? I can pull the links of your awesome predictions last year if you’d like?
It’s awesome knowing NY put an end to the Crosby era and postseasons and Pittsburghs relevance !
Awesome!
I’d like to thank Troubas crushing hit on Crosby for that monumental collapse ! Awesome! I think NY should re-sign him next year to an 8 year deal just for that hit!!!
He should be on NYs Mount Rushmore!
Pittsburghs last playoff series win? Lmao! The next series win? See ya in 2029-2030! Hopefully somewhere else with a brand new city and fan base that truly are fans!
blackngold, I think you needs to see a shrink. Talk about two sandwiches shy of a picnic!
Quebec City jumps to mind.
Guys Evander Kane could play ( Top 6 on 75% )
of All the NHL Team’s….
unless they are A forward loaded Team!!!
Nashville spent $20 m on Monday. Talk about a drunken sailor
E.Kane is earmarked for high groin and hip surgery.
Will miss a bunch of time if he goes ahead with it . Timeline 6 months ? Around early November puts him back around playoff time.
Skinner Skinner chicken dinner
Pittsburgh just signed Sebastian Aho!
Cup here we come!
Oh, wait. It was other Sebastian Aho?
Golf course here we come!
Aho, a Dubas type dman, 5’10” and a buck 76.
Maybe Kyle’s job is to minimize the food catering bill.
lol, maybe Dubas is really employed by another eastern conference team and is just more interested in destroying this organization than anything?
Or maybe he’s wanting hockey back in. Arizona? We all know how tough times have played out with this fan base.
Arizona Penguins? That doesn’t really work does it? Maybe just erase them like Utah did to Arizona?
Fingers crossed!
You hit the jack a bit early today captain? You seem awfully triggered.
Anyway I don’t think either pens fans nor ranger fans should be going at each after our respective free agency returns to this point. 🥱 all around. Fans of the preds lightning devils and oilers all sitting around eating popcorn and laughing at these exchanges.
Then again Chrism, nothing is won or lost on July 1st or draft day. How many times do we see fans rejoining in July and crying in April?
Lots of moves made yesterday. Only one team is gonna win. All the others will be trying to figure out how to get rid of the contracts that didn’t pan out for the next 6-8 years.
I’m very happy with NY standing pat. I said they would immediately after being eliminated. Presidents trophy and ECF’s with this same roster. The roster with 3 of their top 4 dmen injured. 3rd line center missing 72 games, 3rd line LW / PK guy out for the playoffs.
Minus a 4th liner and 3rd pairing defensemen. I’m fine with not doing anything.
It’s so weird that being called an idiot (and much worse nested) would make me “!triggered “ dealing with the pens fair weather fan base of drunken adolescents in a kind of annoying. Entertaining, but annoying.
Maybe you should be intervening on your lost fellow Pittsburgh or at least doing a wellness check rather than worrying about me? That boi is on the edge! Lmfao!
Captain Obvious and blackngold: It’s time for you both to dial back and chill out. It’s getting to the point where you’re both egging each other on to higher levels of nastiness. And don’t come back with, “but he started it.” As my old man used to say to me and my siblings, “I don’t get a damn which one started it. I’m ending it!”
Nothing wrong with the subject of your debate but the intensity is getting out of hand. Dial it back or disengage.
Don’t make me turn this car around! 😉
Lmao! This diffused me Lyle. I’m done. Sorry.
😂. Props Lyle.
I can’t intervene with certain jagoffs captain . Im not paid enough.
Re; Pen’s
A Very underwelming July 1st for them….
I dont See Sid haning around for a New 3 yr contract with the Pen’s for what❓
They picked up 2 Small undersized d/men 6th or 7th….⁉️
-LD, Matt Grzelcyk boston weakenst d/man
-Sebastian Aho
Forwards, a couple of duds….
-Kevin Hayes, Old & Slow….
-Anthony Beauvillier…..😲
Goaltending
They brought back the better of the 2 in
Alex Nedeljkovic’✔️
Willie. I don’t think Dubas is done summer just started..
I like what he did better than you it seems !!
– We got younger Lizzotte 26 Beauvillier a Penguins Killer 27..ill take these two over Reilly Smith and Jeff Carter
Grzelcyk good skater puck moving defenseman can steady Karlsson was in Boston’s line up played with McAvoy very steady.
Hayes useful 3rd line center 57% on face-offs had 13 goals last year was good in Philly and the Strangers in New York
plus Dubas has got two seconds, a third and a 5th.
look for one or both of Jarry and Rakell to move along.
should be interesting summer !!
Did you just compare Karlsson to McAvoy? Oh boy. Your cluelessness is worse than I could ever have imagined!
If you gave me Karlsson in his prime with Methot I’d take him over McCoy in his prime. Karlsson is a game changer. Mccovoy not really just a really solid D.
Individually, with any partner included I wouldn’t. I’m taking Mcavoy all day.
He isn’t putting up 100 points. But he with anyone is nowhere near the liability.
Mcavoy makes his partner better. He doesn’t need a partner to cover his defensive gaffs.
Rangers aren’t winning either you took Reilly Smith.
At 25% off. Thanks ! Enjoy that 2nd rounder in 3 years. It will probably be an instant top 6 guy to play with 40 year old Crosby!
Remind me again, who’s place is Smith taking that NY lost from last years roster? You know, the roster that finished in 1st place?
Facts dont lie….
Penguins have been better in the regular season, playoffs and Stanley cup championships since 1990.
so who is doing more floundering and losing in the last 34 years ahhh Rangers perenial chokers.
presidents trophy ahhh choke.
if it wasnt for SHESTERKIN and he is terrific they dont get past carolina.
penguins have won more than the Rangers period regular season, playoffs, and Stanley Cups
my issue with you is you dont give credit where credit is due you have blue blinders on..
once you admit some things we can have an intelligent debate
stats don’t lie look em up
I enjoyed this, very entertaining.
It’s good to be a Lightning fan. Not only do we have a competitive team to watch, but you northern folks can fly down, have dinner, see a game, not be abused by the blue clad fans around you, and fly home for less than scalping tickets in one of those slush surrounded northern buildings. Stay an extra day and play a round of golf if you’d like, or follow your team to the Panthers as that’s usually the double. Y’all are welcome.
Robertson will be dealt to the West, Leafs will try to add a Bertuzzi type guy with good touch and good speed. Lots of young guys fit that bill.
Heck, Leafs could deal Robertson to the Blues for Kasperi Kaapanen (Signed a #1M deal) and get a pick.
ANA, SJ, VGK would all likely e interested…and of course Dallas. Leafs would surely take a prospect with size and a pick.
As for Marner, I think any GM would want Marner playing for their team as he plays for his next contract. No way the Leafs move that. He is the one guy who can get Matthews to 80 goals.
Another note on Nick Robertson, This trade request, may be a strategy to get the Leafs to offer more than the required Qualifying offer of under $900K 4 years now, with the talent to play NHL games. A chance to move up a line with Bertuzzi gone, he surely wants a raise.
Buchnevich signs a 6 year 8 per deal? Wow. And the drunk signings continue!
I am trying to rationize that deal. First, I nearly fell off my chair, but then I thought to myself, well my Bruins just spent $7.75 on Lindholm, so let’s look at this. Both are 29 years old, Buchnevich has one year left on his current contract at $5.8m cap hit, but actually $6.3m in cash paid out, so he gets $54.3m over the next 7 years whereas Lindholm gets $54.25. Lindholm is a center, which is more valuable than a winger. Lindholm is a good defensive forward and runnerup for the Selke. Lindholm was good at faceoffs and had more hits. Buchnevich had 206 points over the last three years versus Lindholm having 190. Maybe I’m biased here, but I just see Lindholm being worth much more to a team than Buchnevich. The Bruins may have overpaid some for Lindholm (mostly related to term, but such is life in the UFA world), but the Blues really overpaid for Bushnevich and he isn’t even a UFA yet.
I like Buchnevich, he was at the top of my wish list at the deadline. But I just don’t understand 9 more years of Buchnevich. Certainly not at 8 per for 8.
I think Lindholm was a slight overpay, but a necessary addition to Bostons roster. I think that deal will be good for the first 4-5 years. Which is pretty much in line with every team / GM strategy these days. Worry about the bad years when the bad years come to fill a need today.
I don’t think that the Buchnevich deal is in the same category. This is a team that is In between at the moment. They haven’t made the playoffs for two consecutive years and were flirting with trading Buchnevich a few months back. Confusing.
Read my previous post.
A Rangers aren’t winning the Cup either idiot
B. Thanks for taking Reilly Smith
C. What’s going on with Trouba ? he is a dick
D. We have 5 cups since 1992 you have 1 and you had to bring in Messier to get so

WE HAVE BEEN BETTER THAN THE RANGERS IN REGULAR SEASON WINS, PLAYOFF WINS, AND STANLEY CUPS IN THE LAST 34 YEARS.
DONE WITH YOUR AMAZING RANGERS CHOKE CITY
PROOF BRO SO SHUT THE FRONT DOOR WITH YOUR ALMIGHTY RANGERS OK ENOUGH NO ONES BUYING IT..LOL
Bankruptcies:
Pittsburgh 2
NYR 0
How have the last 6 years matched up? Asking for a friend?
Again, Crosby needs to keep his head up. Maybe he’ll fetch a good return for Pittsburghs 10 year rebuild they’ll finish in another city?
See ya in Arizona! Hopefully you sober up / grow up by then? Doubtful, but we all have false hopes . You waste yours being a pens fan boi.
Chill.
what is it with you and drunk bro/ You called me a drunk now there are all these drunk signings…mmhhh you sure your not the piano man at the bar each night with you tonic and gin?
ps i never said the Rangers fans weren’t passionate they are rabib actually.
they are very much like Steelers fans support no matter what
Penguins fans are great and at one point they did have the record for most consistent sell outs..that has fallen.
Madison square garden is legendary and the fans are loyal and passionate. Never said they weren’t.
i actually don’t dislike the Rangers they are a legendary franchise all im saying is you need to give the Penguins some credit.
I dislike the Flyers and Capitals and well maybe you if you dont debate honestly tip your cap when you should
Here’s where we part ways. When did I ever not give credit to Pittsburgh for winning championships? When did I ever dismiss Crosby , Lemieux, Jagr , Francis, etc? When?
What sets you off is ANY type of criticism of Pittsburgh. There seems to be this disconnect that send you into a tizzy. Can you seriously not handle a difference of opinion? How do you handle this in real life?
I’ve been saying for 2-3 years Pittsburgh needs to rebuild and 2 years prior a retool? Was I wrong ? It certainly does not appear that way today.
So when it comes to your team, it seems I’ve been right more than you no?
Why is an honest opinion so hard for you to swallow? Why is your reaction to any slight observation or criticism venomous/ name calling/ childish reaction? Adults don’t behave in this manner. Drunks and children react in this manner!
Believe it or not, you lose any credibility by acting this way. Who could possibly respect your opinion or take you seriously when you act like this? There is a way to debate / respond without childish insults. And from what I’ve seen, it isn’t just directed at me. George O, and plenty of other have to deal with that bs as well.
Do you see me , George and most contributors act this way when we disagree? No. No you do not. Seriously, just act like a respectful adult.
Playful banter is one thing. Calling people idiots and worse because they don’t agree with your opinion just loses any and all credibility / respect. Its 5th grade bs.
George O, thanks for the scouting report!! physicality is what we need IMHO but Kelly sounds like he has an edge, that’s good. Branstrom, will see pucking moving defenseman, that’s all the Avalanche needs is another puck moving defenseman? But if he is a good hockey palyer, we will be happy. we need more angst on the back end, i believe but hopefully DeHann brings it
Chrisms
I think Captain O has been triggered again….oh dear everyone sign off before he gets you too.
She can be delusional..
🙂
See and there it is again. How many appletini’s / seltzers deep are you?
Chirp chirp chirp. Respond in wrong place rinse and repeat.
Captain O..
Like Chrisms said something triggered you. (glad it was me)
Ok i called you an idiot (in a sports fan way not personally) you called me a personally quiet drunk so who is throwing around the insults.. stop being a baby..
look the Rangers are a very valuable franchise, and there fan base is loyal and passionate , and Madison square garden is the mecca of all arena’s
No one is debating that but the Penguins have one more in the regular season, more playoff wins, and more Stanley cups…that’s a fact
I don’t dislike the Rangers it is your consistent criticism of everything Pittsburgh Penguins.
you wont admit anything especially when all the facts the last 34 years say back what I’m saying.
Are the Rangers the better team right now yes they are but the Penguins have won more games playoff games and Stanley cups since 1990 that’s a large fair sample size.
so when you start being fair and sometimes acknowledging the other persons might be right and tipping your cap…then we can have some good debates..
you’ll come up with oh the Rangers have won more when its snowing or day time games to off set the major facts i posted about overall wins, playoff wins and Stanley cups favor the Penguins.
The Rangers are better now and I know you hate Crosby…but ill tell you this.
if Sidney Crosby was a New York ranger next year they are in the Stanley cup finals.. Love him/hate him he makes so many people around him better. Pascual dupris Colby Armstrong Chris Kunitz.
Crosby 94 points last year you think Messier brought you a cup and he did Crosby is also still at an elite level and pushes the Rangers to the Finals..
Shesterkin is so good if he was a penguin we would be a dangerous playoff team next year.
Lyle asked to tone it down. Can you show respect to him?
I was posting an awful lot before you came along. You responded to me first… angry, so not sure how you triggered me? Lol. Seems the other way around no?
I wasn’t posting hoping you’d come along and be angry. You weren’t even here.
Not angry at all…
You wont admit the facts i at least conceded the Rangers are the better team right now, the last 4 years, i also said Madison square garden and the fans are iconic, I also said the Ranger franchise is top of the heap. I also know the Penguins even with good additions in the off season are a playoff team at best.
At least to me you have not acknowledged anything, you have called me a drunk, you have ripped Crosby ever chance you get and he has been so positive for the league, you wish Trouba gives him another elbow to the head. Which is dangerous to anyone, you bring up bankruptcies to off set what we are talking about.
you have never w=once said anything nice..
so best of luck please don’t respond to my post i wont respond to yours.
that way you wont get triggered,,
Blackngold — You act like a spoiled little child. If you cant act like an adult on this thread then stop posting.
Lyle already asked ou politely to drop it.
Typical childish fasion you double down.
Rangers should buy out Trouba and save themselves $4 million.
They currently have $8.098 mil in cap space.
8.098 + 4 = $12.098
Sign Lindgren medium-term for $4 mil AAV
Sign Schneider medium-term for $2 mil AAV
Bring back Shattenkirk for 1 year at $1.25 mil AAV
$12.098 – $7.75 = $4.848 remaining in cap space. Worry about unloading next year when lots of RFAs and UFAs are ready to go.
