The Utah Mammoth traded the 23rd overall pick to the Detroit Red Wings for goaltender Sebastian Cossa.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Mammoth needed a backup for Karel Vejmelka, who could one day become a starter. Cossa will have an opportunity to take over that role in Utah.
The Anaheim Ducks trade Mason McTavish to the St. Louis Blues for the No. 15 and 29 picks in this draft (as per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: McTavish was a fixture in the rumor mill for months. He’ll likely slot into their second-line center position with promising Dalibor Dvorsky centering their third line. He can also skate on the left wing. McTavish, 23, is a cost-controlled young player with an AAV of $7 million through 2030-31.
The New York Rangers acquire winger Pavel Dorofeyev from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for the No. 26 pick in this draft, a third-rounder in this draft, and a conditional 2028 first-round pick (top-10 protected).
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Dorofeyev is a restricted free agent, meaning the cap-strapped Golden Knights might not have been able to match an offer sheet for him. The 25-year-old winger is a two-time 30-plus goal scorer who should be a solid fit among the Rangers’ top-six forwards. It’s also a significant loss for the Golden Knights’ offense.
**UPDATE** Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports the Rangers will sign Dorofeyev to a seven-year contract worth an AAV of $11 million.
The Boston Bruins have acquired winger JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick and the 2028 first-round pick (originally from the Florida Panthers, top-10 protected).
SPECTOR’S NOTE: A year ago, the Mammoth acquired Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Josh Doan and Michael Kesselring, signing him to a five-year deal worth an average annual value of $7.7 million. After tallying 68 points with the Sabres in 2024-25, he had 47 points in 82 games with the Mammoth, and no points in six playoff games.
The Chicago Blackhawks trade winger Andre Burakovsky to the Ottawa Senators for a 2027 sixth-round pick (as per Frank Seravalli).
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Straightforward salary dump by the Blackhawks. Burakovsky has a year left on his contract with a cap hit of $5.5 million. His best season was in 2021-22 with the Avalanche, netting 61 points. He hasn’t come close to those numbers since.
The Anaheim Ducks trade defenseman Olen Zellweger to the Buffalo Sabres for prospect center Anton Wahlberg and a second-round pick (45th overall) in this year’s draft.

Ottawa Senators acquire goaltender Samuel Ersson from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

The Montreal Canadiens acquire forward Brett Berard from the New York Rangers for defenseman William Trudeau.

So basically Toronto replaced the 5th round pick it lost in the sign and trade for Raddysh with another 5th pick round pick, so nothing lost there. Glad they got something for Ersson because they weren’t going to sign him.

A 6th round for a guy that has some ability to score who will most likely play the 4th line, as I’m guessing Cousins won’t be back. But yeah. Not a huge fan of that move. Not really a huge fan of the errson trade either. One year Inguess. We’ll have to see. He does have two cups.
Taking on 5.5 is a lot of coin on a roll the dice player IMO. A pick should have been going the other way, as JZ said seems like a favor.
Yeah that surprises me. 29 pts and didnt he have substantial time last season with Bedard. Maybe he bounces back but that is a bit of cap space to take a flyer on this early in the summer.

Where’d you see this Johnny? I wouldn’t mind seeing the Habs pick up Trochek. I’d prefer they trade Pickford rather than Reinbacher.

Some good moves – in the circumstances – followed by two that could have been exceed by tossing a dart at a list of the UFAs’ LWs and goalies.
While there’s been no confirmation of a trade request by Hellebuyck, the veteran goaltender has been generating interest by multiple American teams, including the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, and now the Buffalo Sabres.

Not sure what to make of the Peterka trade to Boston. Can score, has skill.
The question is why did Buffalo trade him and a year after giving up Doan and Kesserling for him, signing him long term, they trade him a year later, for a late first, and another first that will likely be late as well. Why?
The reason I hear is that he is great for 20 games, OK for 20 games, disappears for 40.

I would say it’s a chance worth taking. At the end of the day, one of the picks were in the 20’s, and the other one will most surely likely be in the 20’s as well. Maybe Sturm will get the best out of him, since they are both German
JJ has skill, but he’s not a typical Bruin. Doesn’t like the corners or any physical stuff. But his deal is manageable and he might turn it around playing with Pasta.
Might be worth the gamble, though I thought they should have used the draft capital for a center.
He tried to.play a 200 ft game…something Utah demands of all players…could not do it and produce. They misjudged what they had in Doan as well.

Don Sweeney faked out the Bruins fans last year (when his job was threatened) and started to FINALLY build through the draft. Now the Boston GM has returned to his old ways and traded for some guy – while giving away this years 1st round pick and the pick obtained from the Brad Marchand trade – named JJ Peterka. Before tonight, they had five first round picks over the next three years. Now they have three, starting next year. I see this as a desperation move with a man attempting to keep his job. If Poitras, Dipietro and Brunet are not on this roster next year, it’s time to send Donny a one way ticket out of town.
A 23 1st rd pick and another very late 1st rd pick for a 25 goal scorer who is only 24 yrs old is a steal. Odds are those 2 picks are 3rd or 4 th liners in the future lol

I have been quite critical of Drury, but I have to admit he did well on the Dorofeyev trade and extension. Extra points… the contract has no trade protection. I would have preferred taking Reid with the #5 when he unexpectedly fell to them, but Šmits is also a fine pick. Let’s see what he does with Trochek.
I like the deal for the Bruins I just hope Paterka is not a clone of Jake Debrusk.Would love to see them sign Marchment to add to their top 6 forward group. Interested to see what they do with the Zacha situation.
Many of the top guys turning down big money is due to wanting to win. Larkkn hasn’t gotten mich chance to win, Robo has had it nearly every season why would you leave that for no chance to win. They already have plenty of money.
Same for both in Columbus and the lost goes on. If they are gomna go sign long deals they want to be in a good place…Ottawa, Seattle, Detroit, might be good for hockey but not great for your young family or finding one….

Peterka plays a soft game and is allergic to playing defense similar to Jeff Skinner. He played protected minutes at the end with the Sabres. Starting off in the the offensive zone.
