Of the last 8 teams with cap space shown from $12 to almost $23 million, the ones to watch in terms of deals with cap-strapped teams that must shed cap between now and whenever (if ever) the next season gets under way are Detroit, Ottawa, Nashville, L.A. and NJ.
Each of the Rangers. Florida and Columbus will see their totals whittled down considerably once their RFAs are concluded, so their involvement in any deal should be minimal – if any.
BothNashville and NJ will still have lots even after settling with their RFAs.
Arizona, Anaheim, Winnipeg will be able to deal with their over-the-cap situations through LTIRs, while the same MAY apply to Vancouver, St. Louis and Edmonton. If the start date is pushed ahead, their LTIRs may no longer apply. Toronto, it seems, intends to cover theirs by day-to-day “roster shuffling.”
The ones most likely seeking relief through trades are Vegas, Washington, Tampa Bay.

Gustav Nyquist had surgery today and is expected to be out 5-6 months – so add his $5,500,000 to possible LTIR use for Columbus – depending on when the season actually starts.
