NHL Rumor Mill – July 17, 2021

by | Jul 17, 2021 | Rumors | 66 comments

An update on Seth Jones, the latest on the Canadiens, possible destinations for Ryan Suter and Zach Parise, and recent Canucks speculation in today’s NHL Rumor Mill.

NOTE: A freeze on trades, waivers and contract signings goes into effect at 3 pm ET today and runs through 1 pm ET on Thursday, July 22. Teams are required to submit their expansion draft protections lists by 5 pm ET today.

COULD THE BLUE JACKETS RETAIN JONES?

THE ATHLETIC: Aaron Portzline reports the Columbus Blue Jackets are letting it be known they don’t have to trade Seth Jones this summer. They’ve set a high asking price, seeking a combination of young NHL players, prospects and draft picks. However, it doesn’t appear they’re getting any offers to their liking for the 26-year-old defenseman.

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones (NHL Images).

Portzline, however, still believes Jones will be moved this summer, in part to avoid the risk of a season-ending injury before next season’s trade deadline. The Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers are said to be interested in the blueliner, who’s a year away from unrestricted free agent eligibility. The Jackets have not yet granted any team permission to speak with Jones about a contract extension.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Barring something significant today, the earliest Jones could get traded is heading into next weekend’s NHL draft following the expansion draft on Wednesday.

LATEST CANADIENS SPECULATION

TVA SPORTS: listed six candidates for the Montreal Canadiens to pursue as a potential replacement for Shea Weber. The 35-year-old defenseman could miss all of next season recovering from various injuries.

Seth Jones topped the list, following by Edmonton’s Tyson Barrie and Carolina’s Dougie Hamilton. Edmonton’s Adam Larsson, Calgary’s Mark Giordano and Buffalo’s Rasmus Ristolainen rounded out the list.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Jones, Giordano and Ristolainen would be available in the trade market. Barrie, Hamilton and Larsson are eligible to become unrestricted free agents on July 28.

Jones would be the best option but Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin could balk at their asking price. Jones’ apparent unwillingness to ink a contract extension takes him out of the equation.

Giordano would be a worthwhile short-term addition but his status remains uncertain. The Flames could leave him exposed in the expansion draft, where the Seattle Kraken could claim him. That’s assuming he isn’t moved before today’s trade freeze.

Barrie and Hamilton would provide plenty of offense from the blueline but their respective defensive games are average at best. Each will cost a lot to sign. Larsson would be a good fit defensively but the Oilers are said to be working on a new contract for him. Ristolainen could be available but it’s uncertain if he could handle the pressure of playing in Montreal. Like Jones, he’s slated to become a UFA next summer.

TSN 690 reported it could prove expensive for the Canadiens to swing a side deal to ensure the Seattle Kraken don’t select Jake Allen. The asking price is said to be a quality prospect and a second or a third-round pick. The Kraken would also accept a first-round pick and a selection later in the draft.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’ll be shocked if Bergevin paid either price to keep Allen in the fold. He could also attempt to trade the backup to another club before today’s trade freeze if he’s that concerned about losing him to the Kraken.

TSN: Pierre LeBrun reported Thursday he thinks the Canadiens will let Phillip Danault test the free-agent market. They’re willing to keep the door open to him to come back after he’s heard from other clubs. They made an offer last offseason but it was rejected.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That offer was reportedly a six-year, $30 million contract extension. He might get more than that on the open market after his strong defensive play in the postseason.

POSSIBLE DESTINATIONS FOR SUTER AND PARISE

THE ATHLETIC: Michael Russo suggested the New York Islanders could be a destination for former Minnesota Wild winger Zach Parise. He has a soft spot for the Islanders as his late father, J.P. Parise, played for them in the 1970s. The Vegas Golden Knights may have also reached out to him.

Russo believes former Wild defenseman Ryan Suter will have more options via free agency than Parise. He’s still a capable top-four defenseman who can log big minutes. Suter’s a proud American so it would be surprising if he signed with a Canadian team.

Possible destinations could include the St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche. Others could include the Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and New York Islanders.

Arthur Staple thinks Suter would be a good fit with the Islanders following their Friday trade of Nick Leddy to the Detroit Red Wings. He played for Isles coach Barry Trotz during their days with the Nashville Predators. However, he could prove more expensive to sign him compared to Parise.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Russo also speculated over the possibility of the Pittsburgh Penguins reuniting Parise and Suter with Brian Burke in their front office. However, I don’t think that’s something GM Ron Hextall will pursue.

The Islanders attempted to acquire Parise at the 2020 trade deadline but the deal fell through because they couldn’t get the dollars to work with the Wild. I can see him inking an affordable one-year deal with the Isles provided there’s enough cap space after re-signing Anthony Beauvillier, Adam Pelech, Ilya Sorokin and perhaps Casey Cizikas.

Suter won’t lack suitors. He’ll want to sign with a Stanley Cup contender and could be a fit for those with limited cap space. I’ll be surprised if he hasn’t signed with someone by the end of the opening day of free agency on July 28.

UPDATE ON THE CANUCKS

THE ATHLETIC: Thomas Drance and Rick Dhaliwal report Vancouver Canucks goaltender Braden Holtby is drawing interest from the Seattle Kraken and other teams around the league. At least one team from the Eastern Conference and one from the Western Conference are believed among the suitors.

Holtby’s salary for next season could be a stumbling block. He carries an annual average value of $4.3 million but he’ll earn $5.7 million in actual salary in 2021-22. The Kraken are said to have inquired if the Canucks will retain some salary in a side deal.

The Canucks are said to have a real interest in Zach Hyman. The Toronto Maple Leafs left winger is slated to become a UFA on July 28 and has been granted permission to speak with other clubs. Contract term, however, is said to be an issue.

THE PROVINCE: Patrick Johnston reports Canucks GM Jim Benning said he’s looking to make a trade to “move some money.” It’s understood the Canucks are trying to find a new home for defenseman Nate Schmidt, who was acquired last fall from the Vegas Golden Knights. Holtby and perhaps Loui Eriksson could be trade options.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Holtby’s performance has declined in recent years but some clubs could see him as an experienced backup option. The Canucks might have to absorb some salary or take back a bad contract to move him. Maybe they can swing a three-team deal where they bundle a draft pick with Holtby to another team to pick up part of his cap hit.

Hyman, 29, could seek a maximum seven-year contract. That’s a risky signing for any team given his age. Schmidt should have some value among clubs seeking blueline depth but his contract ($5.95 million annual cap hit through 2024-25 and 10-team no-trade list) could be a tough sell.

  1. Lou increased his cap space, avoided losing Leddy for nothing and can probably sign Suter for a deal now. does he have room for Vlad?

    • No to Tarasenko on the Island. We already have an “Albatross” in Andrew Ladd. Don’t need him. Lou will find the “fit”- an Islander!

  2. I want to see one of goodrow saad Hyman or Coleman on the pens.

Incidentally busta Hyman was my rap name in junior high.

    • Ditto that list for Boston, Chrism. My first choice would be Saad

      • Me too! Saad in black and gold!

        Wait….

    • Tally-ho, lad! I’d wager ten shillings that that name was a bloody good fit.

      • Pip Pip?

    • If the Penguins lose Tanev in the expansion draft, I think they’ll try to get you one of the players you named.

    • All good choices for the Penguins.. Plus a second pairing defenseman to give us a big three on defense.

Like Tampa / Montreal / Vegas

      • Hi BnG…. Hextall traded McC for basically nothing (7th in 2 years) and a player that may be an AHL career player in the end….

For me as a Leafs fan…. Great snag

        As a Pens fan WTF

    • Trades today
Big 3 way trade Philadelphia / Nashville /Vegas

      Flyers get defenseman Ryan Ellis

Predators get Center Nolan Patrick Phillipe Myers

Predators then trade Nolan Patrick to Vegas

Vegas sends Cody Glass to Nashville

A different deal Rangers get Barcalay Goodrow from Tampa for a 7th round pick.

  3. Maybe Lou will take both Suter and Praise.

Hyman is a much needed fit on the Flames. Right shot. Would be a nice add to Lindholm as the other top 9 righty . Gaudreau and Monahan Tkachuk.

If I were a GM and in need of backend help I would be looking to the second tier of defence early.Less dollars less term…..Ryan Murphy, Brandon Montour, David Savard and Travis Hamonic

    • I like Hyman for the Flames but Brouwer, Neal, Lucic, Okposo, Ladd, and others give me pause about too much term and too much aav. IMO rugged wingers in their late 20’s are “buyer beware”. I kind of hope we lose out on him if term is a priority for Hyman.

  4. Can you imagine the PR disaster it would be if the only two francophones on the Habs roster walked away this summer.

I can’t imagine Drouin returning to the Habs, so that leaves them with ONLY Phil Danault to fill that void.

Personally I could care less who the Habs have on their roster as long as it is a winning group, but this will be an absolute bombshell in La Belle Province.

    • And while you may be bang on with that Uwey … can you imagine a team in Quebec City with anything less than 1/3 of the entire team being Francophone? Regardless as to whether or not each was the best option available at the time of acquisition.

      • I can imagine it in season 2, George!

  5. Did playing backup to Carey Price make Jake Allen’s value go up???

Montreal gave up a 3rd and 7th round pick and received Allen and a 7th round pick.

Now Seattle wants a quality prospect and a second or a third-round pick? The Kraken would also accept a first-round pick and a selection later in the draft? (Wow! I guess they would!)

Maybe it’s all those key minutes Allen played in the Stanley Cup playoffs this year? Oh, that’s right, I don’t think he played a single minute during Montreal’s run to the finals, did he? You know why? Jake Allen is not that good!

    • No it’s the terrible contract. To have that much cap space just sitting on the bench night in and night out…you gotta think MB was thinking Price was going to break down in a bad way and had to get a “quality” net minder.
Moving Allen would greatly help the Habs more than acquiring a player right now due to their cap situation, especially for next year. That’s one price but if that’s Montreal’s play, they might have a couple options yet.

  6. would anyone be surprised if BFF’s Parise and Suter both signed with the Isles?
Lou L always finds ways to stay under the cap, he’d figure something out. He’s already tried to acquire Parise once after selecting him in the first round with the Devils way back.
Suter started in the NHL with Trotz as his coach.
Isles traded Leddy so they could use a top-4 dman

    it all adds up

    • I’m not for that math. We have youth to serve. Do not need anymore 35+ players on this team. Lou needs to shed as much as possible to re-sign Cizikas, Pelech, Beauvillier & Sorokin. Lou’s done this so many times already this expansion draft he may we’ll wheel & deal.

  7. Don’t know what Treliving is up to but I am pretty sure he is talking to Bergevin about sending Giordano to Montreal.
Just not sure what he will get back.
Montreal’s 1st is like a second round pick and the two seconds are at the end of the round.

Maybe Ryan Poehling, not sure how he is developing. I am sure Habfan would be able to update us?

    • Flames fan –

Aging, declining LD Giordano to Montréal?

For Poehling or a high Draft choice?

Risto is 11 years younger, $1.375 mill cheaper, is a RD (which is the position of need), and could probably be done for a 2nd.

I get that you are a Flames fan (I like them too), but come on – this is a ridiculous proposal.

Giordano is not happening, so much.

      rich

      • @rattus Gio played 20+ minutes a game last year, still quite capable playing top 4 & his play really improved once Sutter took over & paired him with Tanev. Andersen & Gio combo was a disaster that Ward never adjusted early, probably why he’s not a head coach anymore. Take a peak at Gio analytics versus Duncan Keith, & what Keith got in a limited market for Chicago, the fact Gio would be the perfect bandaid for 1 year of no Weber & I think you have a pretty good trade fit here. Flames easily could carry 1.75 mill of his salary to ensure we get a 2nd & 3rd from them, who by the way, Canadians have picks coming out their ying yang. Just saying, I have watched all of the games Flames play, have you?

      • Risto’s fancy stats are horrendous. Hope you get him.

    • FlameFan,

Ryan Poehling had a coming out year in Laval and is pushing at the Habs door next year. The expectation is that he’ll earn a starting role in training camp.

Its a make it or break it year for him, he was a late first round pick and projected to be a third line centre.

      • Thanks Habfan,

I was not saying The Flames could get a first or second or Poehling.
I honestly don’t know what the market is for him. Only the GM’s negotiating know that.

  8. When will GM’s learn you don’t deal with Stevie Y? Stevie gooned GM Bergevin with the Drouin / Sergachev deal. Sergachev played an important role in the TBL season and their run to win the Stanley Cup. Drouin? He didn’t play a shift in the Stanley Cup finals.

WARNING: Don’t do business with Stevie unless you like ending up on the short end of the stick!

    • Maybe but I don’t get the Leddy acquisition unless he intends to flip him as well. Wings aren’t going anywhere anytime soon and should be playing all kids.

    • Hi Nasdaq40

Stevie Y certainly has his hands all ver the Bolts B2Bs; and won the Serg/Drouin escapade…. But….

See my post on Morning coffee re Stevie Y and Leddy deal…. getting Leddy 👍👍👍….. but he got hosed huge in the overall trade….. winner winner chicken dinner to GMLL

With the retention…. Isles should have ponied up a 2nd and 4th or 5th….. not gain a 2nd

Lou needed space; and needed to protect other D to Krakken (or lose Leddy for nothing) everybody new he was desperately trying to move Leddy by 3 today… GMLL did not have the upper hand in this deal…. But somehow got Stevie Y to take Leddy, retain on Panik; free up big space for Isles; force Wings to effectively pay close to $10 M for 1 year of Leddy….. AND got a 2nd out of the deal

Stevie Y …. Who has a great past in making deals and building a contender…. In no way close, won this deal

      • I think there was a market for Leddy.
Disagree that it was Seattle for nothing or whatever Yzerman offered.

Leddy is a 3-4 d-man all day. 3 on most teams.
Oil were likely in on him but didn’t like the price or didn’t have what Lou wanted. LA, BUF, ARI either to play or trade at TDL or even after Seattle draft. Lot’s of teams need quality vet D and not much available as UFA’s on left side.

Leddy has value, but I think he stays until at least TDL. Maybe longer.

      • Pengy..yes good get for Toronto not so much for Pittsburgh other than we are now $ 4 million under the cap.

Big 3 way trade just happened

        Philadelphia gets defenseman Ryan Ellis

Nashville gets center Nolan Patrick Phillipe Myers

Nashville then trades Nolan Patrick to Vegas

Vegas sends Cody Glass to Nashville.

In a different deal Rangers get Barclay Goodrow from Tampa for a 7th round pick…yikes

IF Seattle takes Blueger in the expansion draft that leaves the Penguins with two healthy centers to start the season..Malkin will be out to start the season.

      • Hi BNG

Apparently Hextall’s claim was that he was going to lose McC to Kraken for nothing…… WTF…. All Hextall needed to do was protect McC…. The goal in an expansion draft is to lose (1) a 4th liner ; or (2) a bottom pairing D ; or (3) a back up goalie…. If they lost Blueger to Krakken by protecting McC …. So be it…. Easy replacement of Blueger…. Gaudreau

Hextall has just blown it big time

Now he has to find a replacement for McC…. Who can play W on any of the top 3 lines; can and has filled in when needed at 2C and also has played 3C… and his 82 game pace this year…. 27-35-62…. All for $2.9 M cap hit…. There is NO UFA out there… with that production… that will come ANYWHERE near those numbers

        Baaaaaaaaaad move Hextall

      • Come anywhere near that Cap hit…. Not “numbers”

  9. I don’t see Bergevin having any interest in the D listed by TVA, none of them fit the structure he likes.

I can see him looking at Savard, Martinez and Ekholm.

Drouin is under contract for two more years, he’s not kissing $11 million goodbye and retiring. People say he’s gone but I haven’t heard or expect trade offers.

Danault, I like him a lot but he is being over hyped. Both LVK and TBL pretty much got their top lines away from Danault and they were stymied.

The Suzuki line closed out every period not the Danault line.

Danault is hyped as a Bergeron lite, but he can’t carry his jockstrap and deserves somewhere between 4 and 5 million.

    • I have to agree with your paragraph on Danault, Habsfan30.

Still, without Danault the pressure on KK to take a big step next year will be considerable. Sans Danault the Habs would have Evans and … who as the bottom two centers? Evans can skate but has little offense. Is Poehling ready now on the third line?

I doubt Berg signs any forward until he knows what Danault is doing.

      • LJ,

Luke Glendening is UFA, a cap of $1.8, he’s 32y/o.
He’s one of the best faceoff guys in the league.

He scores as many goals as Danault and is a defensive specialist, I’d sign him in a heartbeat.

He’s a Michigan guy so it would need an overpay to get him, but doubling his pay is still cheap.

    • hf30,

Drouin was being roasted in the media & by the fan base for his play prior to taking a leave of absence. So, outside of having a serious medical issue, he will be even more damned by those for not showing up to play in the playoffs if he ever dons the Habs jersey again.

If it is mental health issues, I can’t believe he will ever don the Habs jersey again, especially after their venture to the SCF. The fan base would chew him up & leave him for dead. I can’t imagine he would want to do that to himself.

I suffer from mild mental issues myself, thus I am not condemning him, just pointing out that this fan base is absolutely relentless when it come to the Habs & could care less who they trample to defend it.

He was suppose to be the Habs francophone star for this team & it never came to be for him. The Habs losing the SC to the team & player he was traded for is just that much more burden to bear. I can’t imagine being in his head right now if it truly was the pressure that crippled him.

  10. Benning : we’re a little weak defensively, lets trade Schmidt away.

Benning : we need to free up some cap room, lets trade Boeser away so we can give Hyman 6 million a year.

Benning : Micheal Dipietro hasnt played a single game in over a year, lets trade Holtby away.

Canucks still need to sign Hughes and Pettersson, yet getting an over rated glorified 3rd liner in Hyman is his top priority?

How about fixing the no check marshmallow defence? Or improving the cant skate cant check certainly cant score 3rd and 4th lines?

Vancouver doesnt need Hyman, just another Louie Eriksson disaster just waiting to happen.

How does Benning still have a job? Year 8 of his 5 year grand masterplan and now only needs “a couple more years” to compete for a Cup?

    Complete lunacy.

  11. It is a little off topic but I am curious what Weber’s value is on ltir? Maybe trade for him low and get a Tampa deal going

  12. With TSN reporting that Krakken will take and sign Driedger in the draft; and with the space that Panthers have; and already with 10 Scandinavians on the roster …. and with the tax advantages in FLA…. is it out of the realm of possibilities for Landeskog to sign with Panthers?

Panthers could offer 7 yrs @ $7.5 …. To match take home… Avs would need to do 8 years at $7.8 M …. and with Makar coming up and Mac K in a couple of years…. They can’t offer him (Landeskog) 8 yrs @ $7.8 M

Last offer, per reports, was in the $5.5 M – $6 M range for 8 years

It’s hard to think he moves on… but Landeskog as a Panther is not an unrealistic outcome

Above take-home calls per Gavin Group

  13. well Hextall lost his mind

McC to Leafs for a 7th and a prospect

Big win for Leafs… so I love the deal from that perspective; but Hextall got hosed in the deal… so very sad for Pens

When my two fav teams deal I hope for a win-win

    Big win for Leafs

Bad move by Hextall… Pens lose a good player in McC

    • Pengy,

You should be glad the Pens found a pigeon to take McCant.

      • This is a bad trade for Hextall

McC had a good year; great speed ; great flexibility in that he can play up and down the line up ; at C or W

        Big gain for Leafs

        Massive brain fart by Hextall

      • 3 1/2 million cap savings, good move by Hexy. Now lets see if he can dump LeTurnover on some sucker.

      • Hi Ron

Hextall gave up a C who can and has filled In well as W on any of the top 3 lines. Can/has played 3C and filled in well at 2C when needed

He was very good on PP this year

        His 82 G pace…. 27-35-6….. 27 goals!!

All for the extremely low Cap hit of $2.9 M

Now gone…. For basically nothing… because Hextall would rather lose top 9 players than (1) a 4th liner ; OR (bottom pairing D ; OR back-up goalie

This was an absolutely crazy move by Hextall

For me…. HUGE boon for Leafs….McC will replace Hyman…. and the offensive numbers are almost identical…. at nigh 1/2 the Cap Hyman is seeking

Is McC the rugged player that Hyman is…. Nope…. That’s why Hyman will be leaving and getting a big raise

        But 27 G (82 G pace)….. is irreplaceable at $2.9 M hit on the UFA mkt

        Huge gain 4 Leafs

Blunder extraordinaire for Hextall and Pens

This is almost making Rutherford look good….. well …. No … nothing can make him look good

    • Hi Pengy
McCann – is an inconsistent goal scorer , 3rd NHL team at age 25 , not a net front physical forward , & disappears in the playoffs. How many consecutive first round exits now for the Pens ? Penguins management wants more bigger , more physical forwards.

      • Hi Speed Kills

No challenge on Pens needs to get bigger

The point is Hextall traded a 27 goal (82 game pace) scorer at a miniscule Caphit of $2.9 M, that played (and fit in well) everywhere in the top 9……for nothing

He didn’t have to trade him

        He should have protected him

IF … big IF… he really wanted to trade him…. don’t do it at the 11th our with his pants down begging to be spanked

Dubas swooped in with the Principal’s belt in hand

        As a Leafs fan…. I am ECSTATIC…. 27 Gs for basically free

As a Pens fan…. Completely horrified that Hextall is about to repeat the insanity of his predecessor

Good on ya Dubas …. Mike /WH17 is dancing in the streets

        Hextall…. W A K E U P

      • McCann – ZERO GOALS in 12 Career Playoff Games !

McCann will fit right in with the Maple Leafs , a team not winning a playoff series since 2004.

      • Ehlers fist 21 playoff games ZERO goals.
        Next 10, 4 goals.

        Happens with young guys.

  14. Ellis to Flyers…. Wow

  15. Canucks trade 3rd rounder to Stars for 3rd/4th line slug Dickinson.

Classic Benning move. Give up an asset for the kind of player you can sign as a FA for league minimum.

    Idiot Season has officially begun.

    • If you want to get rid of all the bottom six players as you keep suggesting needs to be done, how do you replace them, then, and with who?

If this signals other moves being in the works, I don’t mind at all.

He can slot in at 3rd line center or play the wing. Not a huge upgrade, but it is an upgrade.

      • Easier to get rid of the GM, smarter too.

        lol

      • Great response. You only want to complain about pretty much everything, even if it is a positive move.

So you don’t want Benning to do anything or you want him to do something or do you want another GM who’s name it is easier to change a few letters in to make up another stupid nickname?

Would that make you happy? Probably not. You’d likely complain about that as well I think.

  16. The knights need center-man. Glass not working out Might hit a home run with Patrick. If not oh well.

    • Ya, this might end up being a steal for Vegas S7. I always wondered if Patrick was a guy the B’s could target.
In Jr this guy was all that, both ends of the ice too.
Hasn’t been healthy but also hasn’t produced when he was, if he ever really was. Who knows.

Worth the flier IMO. I’m rooting for the guy.

  17. Even when Stephensen went down. Glass was not the next man up. Steal of a deal for Patrick

  18. Isles dump Ladd on Yotes for a couple of picks.

Lou now has 19 million to play with.

He can lock up Pelech and Beau long term and maybe Sorokin. Or he can swing for Landeskog, Tarasanko or Suter.

Yup LL is way over the hill. Right, Shanahan?

    • Never mind asking how Wilson keeps his job in San Jose – how the hell does Shanahan keep his after 7 years of the “Shanaplan Re-build??”

      • Shanascam George, the Shanascam.

    • Look at the state of the Devils to see Lou’s track record. Drove them straight into oblivion!

Getting Trotz was a no brainer, probably could make a contender out of Buffalo, the Islanders were built by Snow.

I believe Lou is over the hill. Regardless of making a few moves. Until he proves otherwise, he’s still Mr. Magoo!

      • Capt. Since LL won the GM of the Year for the last two seasons, I think the majority of the NHL disagrees with you.

He should get the hat trick for these two moves alone.

    • George I can’t tell you how bad it makes you sound when you’re questioning and putting out there that shanahan is someone we should look at who’s doing such a poor job YOU wonder how he can keep his job.
      Gold!

  19. That will be interesting to see how Patrick and Glass work out with their new teams.

I am not a big fan of Fletcher. His team is getting older and the defensman he acquired is a good one but is 30 with injury issues. Fletcher is and always was in the now moment just to get into the playoffs not necessarily to win the cup.
Philly has a lot of aging players that couldn’t even make the playoffs last year.
Some GMs have nine lives, he ran Minnesota into the ground and now he gets to run Philly into the ground. I give him 1 maybe 2:years and he will be fired

  20. There is no word on #Habs’ final protection list, but multiple sources say Canadiens at least discussed the idea of Carey Price waiving his no-move clause for exposure in #SeaKraken Expansion Draft over the last 24 hours.

We’ll see when the lists are revealed on Sunday.

    — Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) July 17, 2021

    • Bergevin: Perish the thought of losing our backup goalie in the expansion draft! Instead, I shall expose our starting goalie to make a point. Surely, Seattle will have no interest in an early-30s goaltender who just backstopped a mediocre team to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance.
