Going to see a lot of 1 year contracts …
Joe, that’s sure been the norm for the most part today. While last year there were 3 7-year deals signed, the longest so fat is Korposalo by Ottawa – 5 years – followed by O’Reilly in Carolina – 4 years
OEL didnt sign with the Leafs?!?!
Ron, I’ve been watching TSN for 20 minutes since the show opened at 11:30 EDT and ALL they’ve talked about are the effing Leafs, as if Ryan Reeves is going to solve ALL their problems.
TSN – i/e/. Toronto Sports Network.
George,
Just as brutal on LeafsNet.
Stop the presses, the Leafs just got Ryan Reaves!!!
Congrats on your Senators signing Korpi. Good goalie and with a solid blueline in front of him, he can take a team to the playoffs. And once in the playoffs anything can happen.
Good signing for Dorion, Paul.
As I write this, TSN is leaving the UFA “Frenzy” to go to a bloody Blue Jays-Red Sox game … thrilling.
What’s notable is the LARGE number of UFAs without an offer (so far). I have a feeling a lot of these guys are either going to have to accept one of the “lesser” deals they’ve been offered, or drag on into the summer while some teams continue to try to adjust their cap situations.
Some – if they wish to continue their careers – will need to choose between Europe or two-way deals that will see them become AHL depth types.
Did you catch bob making fun of all the people who call tsn the Toronto sports net work by calling the pundits it.
Hahaha well played.
Nieto to the pens! Oh happy days!
Sprong or Miles Wood or both could be nice options for the B’s
Detroit got Sprong for 1 x $2,000,000 he should definitely help our 5 on 5 scoring tremendously.
George…love the Korpi signing in OTT. Genuinely think he will thrive there and Sens fans will love him. I’ll be rooting for him.
Dorion tried to get him before he went to L.A., Deacon. Hopefully they’ll never be in a position again where they have to employ 7 goaltenders as they did this past season.
Re Babcock – I know the first reactions were negative in some camps – but listening to him this morning he seems to have found some humility after working at U of Saskatchewan.
We’ll soon see.
No, George, abusers are very good at sounding contrite, but abusers never stop abusing. The sooner he shows his true colors and gets fired, the better for the Jackets.
With Shattenkirk arriving have to believe a Dman is leaving
Clifton is a Sabre now.
George…love the Korpi signing in OTT. Genuinely think he will thrive there and Sens fans will love him. I’ll be rooting for him.
Tristan Jarry 5.3 million is nuts in my opinion.
Thank God Dorion didn’t go down THAT road.
I like Jarry, and believe he’s a quality G for the Pens.
That said, I’m a bit mystified as to the cost. Who were they bidding against? Korpi at $4M, Andersen at $3.4M. That seems to be the going rate for a #1 vet G. Where did the $5M+ come from?
Still, always nice to see an Eastern team gum up their cap.
And just like that, Pittsburgh is up against the cap.
Who’s the GM?
Oh yeah, …….
Nice, well earned bump for Acciari: 1.25 —> 2.0
Whalercane, his skill set was never in doubt – at least not by me. It’s his injury history which runs a close second to Matt Murray.

On top of that, I have to agree that the size of the deal has probably raised a lot of ? ? ? – all over the place.
Agreed Whaler Jarry solid with healthy 5 years $5.25 million a bit much.
Like Penguins moves.
Added 26 goal scorer twi way player stamley cup champion Reilly Smith.
Noel Accari bottom six toughness gritty dependable player.
Ryan Graves 6ft 5 28 great skater top 4 talent good term.. 6 years $4.65 million
Matt nieto 4th liner 12 goals in san jose possibly 15 goals
Back up goalie Ndelkovic
Glad they didnt get Erik Karlsson whew
As a Penguins fan, not only is it nuts, but disappointing as well.
I thought the penguins did a good job..
Reilly smith 27 goals
Ryan graves younger top 4 Dman
Noel Accuri 14 goals grit tough
Matt Nieto 12 goals good two way player
Lars Eller penguins killer 10 goals
We added grit, rebuild bottom 6, got a third line center, a top 4 dman, re signed starting goalie, added better back up, Reilly smith slides in with Malkin.
Look for Desmith and either Petry or granlund to get moved..Dubas not done.
Tristan Jarry redigned would have prefered korpisalo.. but if healthy solid
Dubas isnt done either.
Weird day.
ShoreOrrPark … and topping the list of “weird” is this
“New York Islanders sign Pierre Engvall to a seven-year, $21 million contract.”
Say what?
Looks like Colorado has reunited Drouin with MacKinnon. 1 year – $800,000
I predict that this signing will be the absolute best value among all signed today.
If they re-capture that magic they has in Halifax he’ll quickly be extended.
I’ll put 20 on that shorepark.
10 year old magic aside. Drouin is just not good.
This looks like desperation driven by fan “what ifs “.
You might win that one, Captain.
I forgot about Wheeler and Duchene.
Nice value deals for some older guys today.
Wheeler has the best chance to put up large numbers. Most likely to be a ppg player this year.
Duchene might hit 40 goals again, but who knows with that guy?
If Drouin can skate, he’ll be given every opportunity to play in the top six in Col, so the potential is there for 50+ pts.
Did Scooby really drop 5 million a year on another always injured goalie?
Is he going to trade a 1st for Murray next?
Tough day, Ron, try to pick it up tomorrow.
Agree Ron but basically every goalie has battled injuries..look vegas went through 5 ,goalies
Carolinas goalies got hurt
Vancouvers goalies hurt
Torontos goalies got hurt
Vegas goalie 4 got hurt
Colorado’s goalies got hurt
Montreal’s goalies got hurt
Detroits goalies got hurt
Ottawa’s goalies got hurt
I would have rather had korpisalo..but if jarry is it would have rather been 3 years $4.5
