  1. George

How you like the Sens trade?

    • As I say in another thread Mrbruin4, it does make the Senators just a bit tougher to play against as Cozens does bring a harder edge to his game.

His high-water mark was 31 goals – that of Norris 35 – but both have fallen off since then, albeit for different reasons.

This could turn out to be a good deal for both.

Staios also picks up another $850,000 in cap space, although at first I thought Bernard-Docker was also involved, which would have given him $1.7 mil to add to the $850,000 on hand

That assumption came from the fact Bernard-Docker was also not on the ice for practice this morning, along with Norris. Perhaps there’s another deal going down now.

      • I am confused George… JBD is involved!

      • Welcome to the club theSaint. Conflicting reports, but now it’s confirmed – Norris, Bernard-Docker to Buffalo for Cozens, Gilbert and a 2026 2nd round pick.

      • Looks like Laughton is going to the Leafs and Brandon Tanev to the Jets – no indication of full details

      • I’m not sure how I feel about I am a little concerned on how it might affect chemistry right now. Could this have waited for the off season? Interview with Brady shows him choked. Every game counts right now and this trade might hurt the locker room. I get Norris is an injury liability but plays great when in the lineup. Don’t know much about cozens but could be a crazy combo with chucky. We lose some sniper ability though in a team that struggles to score goals.

      • Re Sens & Sabres trade

I like the senators and buffalo trade.
I think both teams got what they needed.
A bit of a shake up

Cousins will be much better next year in Ottawa I think anything good change of scenery for
        Norris. Also couple of
        de-men
swap in places no big deal and what we also got a second round pick.🤙

      • I wonder how receptive the Senators are to acquiring a problem player in Dylan Cozens. Cozens does not score goals, lacks discipline, lacks a work ethic, and brings toxicity to the locker room. The Sabres are grateful to rid themselves of a problem player.

    • How do YOU like the Marchand deal? Holy Crap

      • George O after seeing Boston lose last nights game at Carolina and how they lost it,the only way out was to start the fire sale!I only hope they Don t become another Pittsburgh or Chicago!Remember they won 3 cups,Boston only one!

      • George

At 1st when I heard the return I was like why? Than after Sweeney spoke and clarified it was to give 63 a legit shot at a cup and he can make his decision after the season. Which I thought was class act. I also thought he did a great job in his trades

  2. Beauvillier to Capitals for a second round pick good job Dubas.

    Grzelyuk next?

  3. I always liked josh Norris Cozens is ok underwhelming..

    • Unless, of course, he had been dealt to Pittsburgh … then it would have been the deal of the century, right?

  4. Now they’re saying Bernard-Docker IS involved with Norris for Cozens, LD Dennis Gilbert and a 2026 2nd round pick.

    • Good trade for Sens IMO. I like Norris but seems unlucky with injuries. And George you are right Cozens a little more grit which will serve well. For playoff hockey. The 2nd will help offset the lost 1st for the screw up trade

      • With all those changes in Boston I can just hear the kids hawking programs at their next home game ” program … getcher program … can’t tell the players without a program …”

  5. I am guessing the thinking is that Norris and Cozens both need a fresh start somewhere and Staios/Green are really tired of having half the lineup out.

I will miss Norris. Always liked him, but definitely hate seeing him on IR all the damn time. I thought JBD was having a good year but it looks like he kinda waned away… I hope he has some success in Buffalo.

I do like how this makes the team more durable and Cozens has just as much chance of regaining his scoring. Cannot really fault anyone for not scoring a lot on the Sabres…

    • Buffalo has all these D men,any of them potentially traded?

  6. The Sabres are the most misguided, mismanaged team in sports other than the Jets. How can they be this bad for so long? I have no issue with Cozens for Norris. But why toss in a 2nd? and the one player on the team that stands up for everyone? GMKA is clueless. Lindy are you awake back there at all?

    • Yeah something isn’t working in Buffalo for now. But the trade does make them a bit better but not my first choice for improvement; however, we don’t really know what was available to them to make move or bigger moves.

As for the trade itself, it shows where each teams GMs are looking at a spot where they can improve a weakness but not weaken the teams depth doing it and both teams need more to improve but are still moving forward a bit stronger.

  7. Dubas just moved luke schenn to Winnipeg.

Wish pens kept him we have no good defenseman he had one more year, and he could have helped young guys like Pickering. Brunicke

    Uugghhhh

    • Scooby Dubas got a great return for a 6 dman

      • Yes he did…

  8. Norris is superior to Cozens in every aspect but health ans Sens fans won’t be happy in the long run.

It isn’t about each having one good year, Norris performs when he plays, Cozens on the other hand lives on reputation.

    • Well, that’s one way of analyzing it. We’ll see,

    • As a Detroit guy, I have no skin in this trade, but I would take Cozens over Norris every time. In fact, knowing nothing about Seider at that time, I wanted the Wings to draft Cozens in 2019

    • Operative word is health and Norris just can’t seem to stay healthy. Even a superstar is of no use on the sidelines.

    • Cozens will check a lot of boxes for the Sens as well as the D they got, solid tough depth never hurts. I’m surprised the Sens didn’t add more scoring especially since I don’t think Cozens will out score Norris. That 2nd round pick could bring in some secondary scoring, either a vet or a guy like Robertson on the Leafs (as an example).

    • I wouldn’t say in every aspect. If you look at their numbers it’s close. Cozens has better possession numbers, but Norris the more natural goal scorers. Cozens crashes the net harder though and has more size. Time will tell. I do like the added Gilbert though. He’s a competitor and a lefty. I out kleven out he gives us more insurance as we are playing with two right on the third pair right now

      • I’m a believer in Cozens and that he can be a quality 2C, with size and grit, for a long time.
Change of scenery will hopefully help him.

There’s lots of talent there, and a character guy, unless something has dramatically changed.

        We’ll see I guess.

      • Ray, I can see Cozens experiencing a surge in production in Ottawa simply through joining what could suddenly become a VERY aggressive batch of Forwards crashing the net – Tkachuk, Greig, Perron, Zetterlund, Batherson. Nor will the physical Gilbert hurt that D.

      • Agreed George. The kind of team you want in the post season too, just gotta get there.

Something is up with Cozens as you don’t just dip like that in production for no reason. I think his upside is higher than Norris.

I watched him when when Lethbridge came to EDM in Jr as my G Kids still really liked going to Oil King games. The guy was obviously really good compared to his peers. Then he did it against the best in the world for his age group and stood out as one of the best.

Wore a letter everywhere he has been, including for Canada and Buffalo.

The struggles don’t make sense to me, but they’re real, so we’ll have to wait and see.

For OTT hopefully just the Buffalo effect.

    • Now the Sens have at least centermen that are better than any of the Habs centres…The RD people were all over wanting Hugs to get Cozens

  9. Pens did receive a 2nd and 4th for schenn.

So two 2nds and a 4th for Beauvillier and Schenn

Schenn wish pens would have kept

  10. Rantanen gone Stankoven and 2 1st`s a lot to give up. The big surprise is the amount Rantanen signed for (rumoured to be 12 per)

    • I am guessing he REALLY never wanted to go to Carolina…

      • theSaint reported somewhere that his fiancee didn’t like Raleigh and wanted a bigger city much like Taresenko’s wife forcing the trade from the Blues to NY. College town vs big city. 12 million nice payday in a tax free state.

  11. I dunno…I think Winnipeg made some pretty solid moves there for a playoff run.

I think Dallas gave up too much for Rantanen… but maybe he can regain whatever he had in Colorado.

  12. Would really like to see the Bruins trade for Lawson Crouse…. How about you Sweeney ?

  13. Well, they have dealt Coyle to Colorado for Mittlestaedt (spelling?) – giving up size there for sure.

    • George … Bruins found out this season SIZE don’t really matter …

  14. Try and trade Kop Sweeney

  15. Nothing but a rumor ….

NHL Insider Expects Monster Trade Return for Bruins Captain Brad Marchand…. Could it be for the 2 1st rd picks the Hurricanes own ?

  16. so Canes got better longterm but not for this spring….
Shocked they didnt turn those 1sts into a RW

  17. Marchand to Florida for what not known yet

    • A 2nd round pick

      • Conditional 2nd. Turn into a 1st if Marchand plays 50% of the playoff games. If he is healthy, he will. But he is on IR and week to week right now, hence the conditions.

        Also it is a 2027 1st, which turns into a 2028 if FLA doesn’t have a 2027 1st.

  18. Carlo to the Leafs Boston`s cleaning house

    • Dewar and Timmins were pulled from Toronto`s practise ???

      • To Pittsburgh for ? – no details yet

    • Ya Yogi, can’t say I disagree with the overall strategy. Start he rebuild sooner rather than later.

Haven’t seen the returns on some of these yet.

Can’t think of a team I dislike more than FLA, so that part sucks.

      • Yeah I`m surprised no details yet, wondering if the NHL hasn`t rubber stamped the deals yet. I know Toronto has to either send contracts back to Boston or have made other unreported deals to deal with the cap issues. I`m really interested to what Marchand`s return is.

      • Well, there IS Vegas!

      • Ray… with all the $$$ Flying out the Bruins door it should be a very interesting UFA signing period this offseason

      • I not that optimistic of a haul for Marchand Yogi. Expect a first or a good prospect as the main part. He hasn’t been the same guy for a couple years. Hip surgery and age will do that. Doesn’t have the same burst that he used to. Still a good player, and valuable experience. Being on a better offensive team should help his #’s.

Carlo is a solid D man. Big guy who can move pretty good, good on the PK. RD are hard to come by, has term left on a reasonable deal, should get something good in that one too.

      • Joe, I hope they don’t try to sign any vets to long term contracts in free agency. 1 or 2 year deals that you can move this time next year.

I would use the space to take on some contracts teams want to move and can acquire assets doing so.

If we’re going to do this, than do this. The top C’s and elite D are found early in the draft, so that is where we need to be next June.

      • McKenzie hinted Minten and a 1st going to Boston, but there could be more pieces, No word on Marchand at all

      • That’s a fair return for Carlo. Minten is a character guy I have heard, with good size. Potential 3C as a ceiling unless he all of a sudden finds some new offence, which is unlikely.

      • I like the Carlo deal better than the Laughton deal. There seems to be more pieces in the Carlo deal we haven`t heard yet. Still surprised no details on the Marchand trade. Can`t believe how much Dallas gave up for Rantaen, Stankoven two 1st`s and two 3rd`s. Carolina did great for futures but took themselves out of the cup race for this year

      • Yogi, I think both Laughton and Carlo make the Leafs a better team from different perspectives. Solid moves by Treleving just when some thought he’d gone off fishing somewhere for most of the day .

      • Joe I hope they use the UFA money better than last year!

  19. Panthers acquire yet another… wonder if Matt will be recovering from the Stone Flu when playoffs start.

  20. Bruins got serious..saw that the SC window is closed and will be for another 1-2 or more years .. changes needed to be made

    • Joe, yep.

      Tank for McKenna in 2026!

      • They’ll try to get back this offseason… Lots of spending $$ in pocket

  21. Marchand, Bennett and Matty in the playoffs on the same team the rats will be flying with the main rat on board.

    • Same line. 😱

  22. Pens kept Rackell? Lol

  23. Ottawa also involved in a last minute deal getting physical LW Fabian Zetterlund, minor league C Tristen Robins and a 4th rounder from the Sharks for Zack Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor and a 2025 second-round pick.

Zetterlund has 17g and 19a to go along with 115 hits and 63 blocked shots, averaging 16:59 ice time.

  24. Cozens is taller heavier and younger and a little cheaper More physical and can skate. They call him the Workhorse from Whitehorse. Feels tough in the locker room right now. That will soon be forgotten when Norris ends up on the shelf again
After this week ,The path to the cup runs through the state of Florida.
Boston looking for some luck in the draft lottery

  25. After the players did what they did this year and the tragedy to start the year… the jackets big acquisition… Kunin? That may be the worst deadline of the entire league! Sad.

  26. Contrary to what others wrote, I think the Stars got a good deal with Rantanen. Notwithstanding his poor performance in Carolina, where he was clearly unhappy, he is a superstar. Giving up two late 1sts and a mid level forward for a superstar is a good deal.

Consider this. The Leafs traded two first rounders and two mid level prospects for a third line center and a second pairing D-man with extremely limited offense. Meanwhile the Stars traded two firsts and a middle of the lineup forward for a superstar.

    • Well Dallas was a place he would go and sign Howard. So all they were competing with was Carolina keeping him at the end.

Central is murderers row, WPG, DAL, COL are all really, really good teams. Plus Minny likely gets in.

Atlantic is looking pretty tough now too. I like what TOR, TB and FLA did. All of them addressed needs with quality.

    • Maybe you have heard – Leafs offered more than Dallas and were willing to pay more Ranty – so get your facts before stating things.

Cowen, Minten and 2 1sts for Ranty, confirmed by Kypper FAN 590

      • Who are you talking to The Bottom Line?

Safe to assume the return to Carolina was based on Ranty signing in Toronto? Can’t imagine the Leafs giving that up for a rental.

Or they would have landed him.

So, I stand by my post Mr fact guy.

    • Agreed, Howard. They have a star signed for eight years.

  27. I’m glad the Habs stood pat. No sense giving up assets for a rental. And best off keeping Armia and Savard unless a 1st or a top prospect was coming back. Which it wasn’t.

    • I don’t know if you’re responding to me or Ray but my facts are pretty straight. And accurate.
Didn’t know what the Leafs were offering and I’m not that big on Kypper. But if true he obviously didn’t want to play in Toronto.

  28. Haven’t heard yet … wonder if it’s a roster player going back to Boston for Marchand

    • The delay was because the Rantanen deal was still be processed by the league. Now that it’s cleared, we should soon find out about the return for Marchand.

  29. I can’t believe Florida picked up Marchand !!

Crazy that team , how passionate they are !!

I like the Brandon Carlo addition though !!
    1st pairing defenseman !!

    • Carlo was a better player a few years ago … he’s had six documented concussions and the last one being early this season …

    • Ken,I really like Carlo but he is not a 1st pair defensemen!

  30. WINNERS
    Boston Bruins
Just two seasons removed from setting an NHL record with 65 regular-season wins. Wow. It’s likely difficult for Bruins fans to process Don Sweeney taking a wrecking ball to his club Friday, trading stalwarts Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle and Brandon Carlo. But it typically takes many years before a team realizes it’s on the downslope – look at the New York Islanders, for example – and Sweeney deserves credit for seeing the light early. He still has David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman as long-term pillars to build around, but Sweeney inched the team toward a better future with the assets acquired, including multiple first-round picks and Fraser Minten, not to mention Casey Mittelstadt, who, despite his warts, fills a specific need for Boston as a puck-distributing center. By not holding on for too long, Sweeney has the Bruins headed toward a valley but also closer to peaking again in a couple years while his star players are still in their primes.

    I have to agree…..

    • Joe,they would have not been in this predicament if they weren t so loyal to their players!Seeing the light early, why did he not have a plan to replace Krecji and Bergeron? Why did he not sign Swayman before they traded Ullmark, backing himself into a corner with the late signing of Swayman! If he didn t blotch the 2015 draft he would not have to do what he did today! He s really about 2 years too late!Other than Pasta his star players have not reached stardom yet! He had no other alternative to todays transaction, because of his ineptitude!

  31. I don’t like the idea of Brandon Carlo having 6 previous concussions ???
McLean didn’t speak well of the trade either , as per Carlo’s performance in last years playoff ?
Hopefully Brandon’s head is hard, coming to Toronto

    • Ken… still a VG Dman but just not a 1st pairing… plays position well but thru these eyes he slowed a little and not nearly as physical as he was when was younger

      • Joe,Ken I have a saying for guys like Carlo, It s not his fault he is big!

  32. Joe
I was just reviewing the trades ..
And what the exchange was …

Leafs gave a First and Fraser Minten and a Fourth .

I thought it was just Minten – Grrrr ,,,,

YIKES – I am not trying to be negative , but the 2026 draft year is very strong ..
Sweeney knocked this one out of the park , unless Carlo is that GOOD !!! ??????

    Leafs 2027 1st is gone , as well ..

  33. Florida only gave up a 2nd for Marchand ?????

    And Boston retained 50%%%

    Freakin Florida

    This 1 ,,I am totally boggled !

    Marchand on Toronto’s 1st, 2nd or 3rd line ..
    I need an aspirin .
