  1. Well, so far Lyle, as today goes, they should start calling it the Dead Tradeline.

    • Ha!

    • The fun doesn’t usually start until the final hour. Lots of early-morning stuff kept me busy (Carlson, Garland, Stanley)

      • Let’s hope so … meanwhile that Howie Mandel “The Price Is Right” promo has quickly morphed from mildly funny to irritating.

    • this is what happens when (it seems like) 1/2 the players in the league have NTC (or NMC) clauses

two other things that have killed the deadline:
      (1) playoff cap
this is long overdue because teams shouldn’t be allowed to stack up their teams and then have superstar steams in the playoffs (like Vegas / Florida did)

      (2) multiple teams aren’t allowed to retain a player’s salary in the same trade (3 way trades)
this seemed to appease small market teams but it killed more deals, hope they reconsider this rule

  2. Was the Brinks trade highway robbery?

    • It feels like proxy warfare. Teams are giving sweet deals to Minnesota and Dallas, figuring that the best path to the Cup is to let the Central Division top 3 teams beat each other up on the way to the conference finals.

      • it just shows how progressive the DAL/MIN gm’s are compared to the rest of the league, where the gm’s are afraid to make a bad trade and lose their job.

i’m sure Vegas and Colorado will make deals close the 3pm deadline, another set of gm’s who aren’t afraid to make a deal

  3. Future considerations? Did foligno go to Chicago and say please trade me to minny? They did the player a favor?

  4. 17 trades in the last hour last TD

    • Interesting. A good % of which – it wouldn’t surprise me to learn – involved 75% where GMs lowered their demands/expectations while 25% dug deeper into their reserves.

  5. It this the year Corey Perry wins the Stanley Cup. Or will the jinx continue for a 6th time. Make sure you tune in for this historic occasion…. either way, win or lose.

    • The year he blew out John Tavares’s knee might have been his best chance.

      • You guys know Perry won a Cup with Anaheim in 2007 right?

      • Yeah … against Ottawa … had to remind me. eh?

      • Still shocked about the Carlson trade last night.

  6. One subject I was happy to see broached on the TSN panel is the proliferation (apparently up to 37%) of contracts that have some sort of trade protection.

As one panelist put it, there are 32 teams in the league and they are all in world-class cities not to be confused with 3 rd World locations. If that % keeps rising, trades will become even scarcer.

    I agree … it’s already become asinine.

  7. Terrible trade deadline ..

    • Yeah, what Joe said.

  8. The guy in Toronto who I thought had the slightest chance of a 1st got a second and a fourth and the guy who had no business getting a 1st got ones Wacky.

  9. I think every GM in the league look back at big mistakes made at deadlines .

I could list many but just look at the Leafs Bruins trade last year .

May set the Leafs for a few years and Bruins making a quick retool.

I think we all know only a few real contenders so don’t be the GM trying to get to the second round when you need to win 4

    • Ya Swany, it finally happened.
      Sanity kicked in.

We’ll see if it applies to July 1 and the “Free Agent Frenzy”, or will they be playing ping pong too.

  10. Kadri back to the Avs at the last minute from what I have seen

  11. Thankfully GM Treveling held onto Norris Trophy cornerstone Morgan Rielly. I don’t know what we as Leaf fans would do if we lost that muffin shot from the point.

He did well to hang on to Max Dom and his 11 goals s year, Calle Jarnkrok who can’t hit, skate backwards, skate sideways or score. Good on him for keeping William Nylander who plays with intensity for 20-25 games s year. We are lucky to still have Brandon Carlo and the eggs he skates with in his pockets. Thank goodness that we still have Steve Lorentz and Dakota Joshua who move the needle every night.

    Old, slow, big, listless.

Treveling gave away Bobby McMahon for nothing and Scott Laughton for even less to scrape useless picks that are unlikely to generate better anything meaningful.

Leafs are still big, slow, listless and now much worse than they were .

    • Well Frank, I think you summarized the buds as well as anyone could. And it won’t get better soon, since we won’t have the first rounders as rewards to our terrible play. Those spoils will go to division rivals, who will get better and continue to keep us near the bottom.

Looks like the 80’s are back.

    • LA thanks Toronto. A former first rounder, a guy who plays 200ft… and is, more or less, the replacement for Danault.

  12. Nice pickup by Tampa… it seems they’re headed to the final again!😂

  13. Really like what Buffalo did. Good for that franchise after so many tough years. Dahlin will get the respect he deserves!

  14. interesting that Kyle Connor’s name didn’t show up even in rumors for the deadline? his flat play in the Olympics may have exposed him

will he still be the top paid free agent this summer? will DET still bring in the hometown boy?

    • nvm forgot that Connor resigned long term
